Out and About: Gateway to Geekdom

This past weekend Duncan’s Books and More spent the day out with a mini group of the Amazing Wyked Writers, T.L.Smith, Bernard Schober, and Mark Rude. We headed to Prescott where we attended Gateway to Geekdom.
The event was organized by Josh and cohorts of the Game On game store located in the Prescott Gateway Mall where the one day event also took place. Besides vendors like ourselves, the group organized panels, make and take its, video game room as well as board games. There was food available in the mall food court that was excellent. Participants came dressed up in costumes to the geek fest and everyone said they had a great time.
While we were in the main hall with the vendors, we still got to chat with plenty of people. We had participants check out our art and books and talk to our authors. Many of the books found good homes and just as importantly, our authors sold some of their art and books.
The energy of the event was contagious. Everyone had a good time. The organizers checked on vendors and participants alike to get feedback and find out how they could help and how they could make the next geek fest even better. Every person I spoke with from the organizers to the participants was super nice.
Gateway to Geekdom, for being in a mall, had a terrific turn out for the one day as well. According to the organizers, they had just around 400 people at this first year event. As for the Amazing Wyked Writers and Duncan’s Books and More, we had a blast, did well for the first year of an event, enjoyed working with the organizers, and can’t wait for next year! Keep reading our blog to find out when we’ll be back.
If you like geek festivals, I highly recommend this one. They are well organized and super great people! Plus it’s a great way to get out of the heat of the valley for a day.
