The Doors of Midnight by R.R. Virdi: Layered and Winding
Some stories are hidden for a reason. All tales have a price. And every debt must be paid.
I killed three men as a child and earned the name Bloodletter. Then I set fire to the fabled Ashram. I’ve been a bird and robbed a merchant king of a ransom of gold. And I have crossed desert sands and cutthroat alleys to repay my debt.
I’ve stood before the eyes of god, faced his judgement, and cast aside the thousand arrows that came with it. And I have passed through the Doors of Midnight and lived to tell the tale.
The Doors of Midnight by R.R. Virdi is layered and winding. Like a story told to the audience, it is full of hidden depths and layers of time, running back and forth into Ari’s life, creating a legend. It is interesting and intriguing but for me, I found it was longer than expected and harder for me to stay focused on the story. The mysteries are compelling as are the characters but the narrative is slow.
If you like stories that build slowly, with hidden layers and winding stories, like the tales of legends, this novel will very much be for you. While it was difficult for me to read, the characters are intriguing and the mystery elements are interesting. Just give yourself plenty of time to read this novel and savor it.
Rating: 4 out of 5 cloaks.
